Dear God, is this guy for real?

(Yes, I know his name. Yes, I know he's a big deal in circles where people have heard of authors most other people haven't heard of. Yes, he's very funny. That said.)

1. Even if he is kidding, are we supposed to believe he is really kidding?

2. Does he really expect to retain his editor after posting that?

3. Does he not realize how goddamn lucky he is to have a fucking editor at all?

I'm sorry, dude, I just don't have that much sympathy. Oh! You are not your editor's very first priority in his every waking moment! You have waited a whole month to hear from him! You poor poor hipster-chic darling, let me gently smooth away your tears with shredded pages from one of your rivals' latest New Yorker article. I mean. What in the even?

I have another, better Niles icon for this post but I'm on a run out the door and I can't find it among my 150-whatever icon. Do you think my pain is as fresh and poignant as Shalom Auslander's?

Meanwhile, filed under "Things his editor is thinking":

Day 28

I check my email. Oh, look, one of my clients is whining about turnaround time. Guess I need to accidentally file him at the bottom of my pile -- again.

Reading that kind of makes me want to tear my hair out. Ahhh the whining. Way too much whining to believe that he's not at least a little bit serious.

It could just be that his manuscript is godawful, and his editor is trying to find a nice way to say so.

I guess it could be satire? But it's not very effective, if so. Yeesh.

As someone who is indeed an editor, I kind of want to punch him in the face. Repeatedly.

Never heard of him, and I'm kind of guessing after that I'm never going to!
