Oh boy, you guys, oh boy. Spring has sprung, nature is bursting forth in full flower and beauty, gentle breezes play with your hair as you walk to your local CVS to ask for the umpteenth time if they have a new shipment of spring water in yet because your cats don't like boiled pond water and, come right down to it, neither do you. These are the days when the whole world calls you out into the glory of a new season! And so, my friends, I am once again wholly at the mercy of that old, irresistible compulsion. You got it:

It's Broadway Sim obsession time.

Look, guys, I can't explain why this thing eats my head periodically, okay? I don't know why I can go half a year at a time without even knowing where the CD is, and then all of a sudden something flicks over in my head and I spend three days grimly searching the Internet, subsisting on nothing but Diet Coke and a tub of old-fashioned pretzels, to see if maybe somebody has uploaded Bernadette Peters' hair yet. All I know is IT HAPPENS. And so pretty much all of that first paragraph is conjecture, because I have not been going out into the actual spring itself. I have been staring out the window at it in frustration every now and again while I try to figure out where I can get a giant bubble for Galinda.

Anyway. I spent like 75% of this weekend making various Sims for various Broadway houses*, and I haven't really started playing any of them yet. I'm going to start slotting them into apartments a little bit at a time. We just got Apartment Life, which makes life easier for me because it means Sims can wander through the halls and introduce themselves to one another without my having to try to throw desperate networking parties based on who showed up at whose door for the routine housewarmings. And since they're all going to be crammed into apartments anyway, I decided to start on the slummy side of town.

So, as some of you will have picked up from the photo, I'm starting with West Side Story. I've made Anita, Bernardo, Maria, Tony, Riff, and Anybodys, which is all I'm going to make. Screw Chino, he's boring and his name is stupid. Anybodys only made it into the mix because I like genderqueer characters. At any rate, in the picture above you see Anita, Bernardo, and Maria, OBC-revival-styled. Anita and Bernardo are married and Maria's Bernardo's sister. Tony, Riff, and Anybodys'll move in next door soon, all roommates. And as for tonight, I just wanted to get the the Shark folk into an apartment. So I opened a new neighborhood, grabbed a random apartment building that didn't look too nice, and tried to get them into it.

I would like to stress that the only thing I was interested in doing at this late hour was clicking on the door of an apartment, claiming the apartment for the family, and then saving the game and closing out. So I did. I went into the game and clicked on the door. And here's what happened:

Bernardo pulled a football out of his shirt pocket and sent it zooming towards Maria, who managed to bat it to the ground before it broke her nose, but it was a near thing. They started playing catch, occasionally intermixed with throw-and-drop. Meanwhile Anita, who was supposed to be claiming the apartment, decided -- why not? -- to start watching the clouds. So she lay down on the sidewalk, as you can see. Under the hedge, to be precise. And started watching... things that were not clouds. Still in the sky, though. First she saw a barbecue grill, then she saw a bathtub, and finally, as captured in this photo, she saw a teddy bear. Actually she saw that one several times. There were many teddy bears in the sky this afternoon. I guess I'm missing something by not going out in the spring after all.

Meanwhile the landlord had come by three times to tell them to reserve an apartment, but Anita clearly had two tabs of "things to do" reserved up in the top-right corner of the screen, and the claiming of the apartment came AFTER the cloud-watching. So there. Incidentally, I am also kind of amused by her "wants" tab, which you can see in the picture there, down at the bottom of the screen and next to the big headshot of her. She wants to have sex with Bernardo (canon!), dance (canon!), drink coffee (maybe possibly canon!) and... pull a rabbit out of a hat. Well! Good for you, Anita. I see your ambitions have moved on from seamstress work to a career in the performing arts. I hope it goes well.

As for whether it will or will not, I guess we will see.

*I was able to eliminate dishwashing from my schedule because the state of Massachusetts told me I wasn't allowed to do it! OH PWN'D WEEKEND CHORES
